Carl Alvin Hall

Carl Alvin Hall (1921 - 1996) was active/lived in Oregon, District Of Columbia.  Carl Hall is known for Landscape, genre-historical.

Successor to Constance Fowler as Head of the Art Department at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, he became one of the Oregon regionalist painters inspired by Harry Wentz. He had a forty-year "plus" career as educator and artistic interpreter of the Northwest Coast, and in recognition of his distinction, the Hallie Ford Museum at Willamette has the Carl Hall Gallery, devoted to permanent exhibits of Northwest art.

His Magic Realist style in his landscapes combined elements of abstraction, surrealism, and impressionism and was tighter in detailing than that of the other regionalists.

In 1947, he and his wife settled in Salem, Oregon, and he had been at Camp Adair at Corvallis during World War II for military training. At the time he moved to Oregon, he had a reputation as a rising young star in American painting and had come from Michigan where he had studied in Detroit with Carlos Lopez at the Meinzingher School.
